Sneaks Up 4, Oven Fresh Dreams, Remix Label, and Saweet Cupcakes
By John Southee on Apr 27, 2010 in J. Benjamin & Tee-related Articles, Press & Events
This past weekend I decided to meet up with a friend that I met via social media at Sneaks Up in San Antonio, Texas. I can’t remember if it was Facebook or Twitter where I originally found him but all I know is that whatever he was interested in accomplishing intrigued me. My new friend, Carlos of Oven Fresh Dreams, is interesting to me because he had such a passion for baking, t-shirts, and tattoos. I thought to myself, “Wow, we have very similar interests. I got to see if I could connect with this guy.”
I began to correspond with him and we instantly connected on a personable level and fed off each others passion. Over the next few weeks, we began going in depth about what we were looking to accomplish in our personal lives and have been a constant support for each other since. While we were talking, he mentioned to me that he would be coming into San Antonio for the Sneaks Up sneaker show. I’d been pondering going because I felt that I could get J. Benjamin Clothing Co. name out to people in San Antonio who still haven’t heard about the brand plus I would get to meet the man behind Oven Fresh Dreams in person.
I made it to Sneaks Up and caught up with Carlos and Mike and Jerry of Remix Label. These three guys are really trying to make moves in their own personal brands/companies. I didn’t know I was going to meet Mike and Jerry but I am glad I did. A role model of mine, Rev Run, said a few years back:
Make a conscious effort to surround
yourself with positive, nourishing, and uplifting people; people who
believe in you, encourage you to go after your dreams, and APPLAUD your
victories. If you REALLY want success…….. Surround yourself with
possibility thinkers, idealists, and visionaries!
I have always tried to surround myself with positivity but I think having a group of guys who are entrepreneurial-minded like myself is helping to encourage me to stay inspired to continue to pursue my passion(s). I was able to talk to a few more new people who didn’t know about J. Benjamin Clothing Co. and also was able to run into some folks who have. It still amazes me that people have even heard of me since the brand is still so small. Just the simple fact that we are still so small and people are catching wind of the name makes me want to continue that much more.
As an added bonus to this event, I/we also got to me a fun company, Saweet Cupcakes. Saweet Cupcakes is the only mobile cupcakery in San Antonio and is owned and run by sisters-in-law Tien and Kehmay. This cupcake experience was a pleasant one because once again, meeting cool, thinking-out-of-the-box, entrepreneurs drives, inspires, and excites me! If you are ever in San Antonio you definitely should check them out (but you got to find them first, LOL).

I am glad that I was able to attend and meet all these wonderful people. I wish eat of them more and continued success. Remember that there’s no deadline when it comes to following your own dream.
