Sneaker Palooza Spring 2010
By John Southee on Mar 16, 2010 in Press & Events
Sole Boutique, San Antonio’s exclusive clothing and sneaker store hosted their first street culture show called Sneaker Palooza at the Witte Museum. One of the owners, Julio Rodriguez, said that he wanted to make an event to show the positive side of the street culture lifestyle that is typically portrayed with a negative stereotype. The event highlighted many local San Antonio and surrounding cities artists, entrepreneurs, and performers.
Some of the hot entertainers from San Antonio included rapper Question, rapper Bugsy, singer Alyssa Bernal, singer A.J. Hernz, and many others. They also attracted a few national celebs like DJ Greg Street, Bobbito Garcia, as well as one of the best rappers out right now, Wale. There were many artists showcasing their talents but I didn’t get a chance to speak to any myself. There was also a graffiti artist on site doing his handy work. Towards the end of the event, a fashion show with what I believe were some local San Antonio designers presented their pieces on the runway. Wale was the emcee of the fashion show where he also did some of his songs.

The always mysterious Mr. Fur Face Boy
One of my favorite parts of the whole night was getting to talk to my new friend Fur Face Boy aka Ha. We got to talking about both being in the t-shirt business, life, and many other things. The best quote he said all night was, “REMEMBER, if you want it bad enough, YOU CAN make it happen!”
Although, J. Benjamin Clothing Co. is based on the vision of following your own dream, your own passions, and your own goals, it’s always good to hear it from someone else that you can relate and look up to. I have no doubt that he will be successful because he lives his brand and cares a whole lot about it.
I also was able to meet and speak to other newer t-shirt/clothing companies such as Million Monkey Clothing Company and Demolish Industries Clothing . The passion you feel from these people while talking to them about their brands is so exciting! As an entrepreneur, it makes your mind race more than it already is while talking to them. There was just a lot of cool people everywhere to meet which made this a wonderful first event.
There is going to be a Sneaker Palooza Volume 2 sometime in the winter. J. Benjamin Clothing Co. may just end up with a table next time showcasing our stuff. Overall, I had a GREAT time and thought it was a well executed event. I can’t wait to see what Sole Boutique has up their sleeve for the next one.
