Jackie Robinson “Follow Your Own Dream” Tee
By John Southee on Mar 5, 2010 in J. Benjamin & Tee-related Articles
Today I am introducing you all to my long awaited, newest tee. The “Follow Your Own Dream” tee was inspired by a personal mantra I believe everyone should follow. Follow your own dream is about not giving up on your passions and goals because “life got in the way” or “it was cool as a kid but now is just unrealistic”. I feel there are only certain limitations that will hold anyone back from pursuing their dream(s); not defining your goals, not being dedicated, and not being persistent. These three ingredients are necessities in achieving your dream(s).
While designing this tee, I wanted to use someone who epitomized the phrase. I began thinking of people who really overcame obstacles, broke down barriers, and created their own path to their goal. Some people that came to mind were John D. Rockefeller, Andrew Carnegie, and George Washington just to name a few. Those people are definite dream achievers but they didn’t connect with the J. Benjamin brand. So we sat down and thought about who would really connect with us. If you look past the typography on the tee you can see Mr. Jackie Robinson in the background. To us, he was the epitome of a dream achiever. Here was a man that had a passion for sports and decided to pursue that dream. Making it into the most recognized American sport at the time and breaking the color barrier and getting into the Major Leagues helped make the decision simple to include him on the tee.
All dreams have obstacles that include taking risks as well as sacrifice. There was no reason for Robinson to believe that he could make it to the Majors since it wasn’t allowed but he BELIEVED he could. He used the three ingredients of success (define, persistence, and dedication) to achieve what would have been considered impossible as well as stupid by others.
What did you want to do or be when you grew up? Are you pursuing that passion? Why or why not? Have people told you to be realistic or your dream is unattainable? How do they know? Have they tried to obtain it? We think that you should keep your dream alive. You don’t need to jump all in at once although sometimes the “make it or bust” technique works but we suggest you start define a strategic plan to achieve that dream. Take calculated risks. Focusing on one dream at a time is also important. Put energy into one big dream and the rest will come to being. Most of all TAKE ACTION! Remember this: A dream is just a dream if there is no action.
