Parkour as defined by Wikipedia is a philosophy, which includes the physical practice of traversing elements in both urban and rural settings. The goal is to move from one point to another as quickly and efficiently as possible. Parkour is typically associated with free running also. Miguel has been studying the art of Parkour for a year now.

Miguel, who has always had an addictive personality towards learning new things, picked up Parkour one day after watching it on MTV’s Ultimate Parkour Challenge and being inspired by the words of Daniel Ilabaca. After trying a few moves he decided he wanted to join a gym to learn some fundamental moves. After picking up these skills, it’s been a non-stop new passion that he doesn’t think he will be giving up anytime soon.

Recently, Miguel attended Red Bull’s Art of Motion show in Boston, MA where he actually got to participate with some of the bigger names in the game. By putting himself out there and showing them his skills has begun to open up some doors he never knew were there. Miguel, now sponsored by us and Oven Fresh Dreams will be traveling to California this winter to film with the well-known group, Team Tempest.

You Can’t Rain on my Dreams!

Picture this: You’re driving down the road and it’s really pouring down rain. You can barely see more than a few feet in front of you. Your vision is blurred as the windshield wipers try to clear your view. Your best guide at the moment is the white lines on the side of the road.

It’s not easy to drive in this situation but little by little your are getting closer to your destination. Can you see how this can be a metaphor for you accomplishing your dream(s)? A few days ago I was speaking to a good friend on how I believe there are two types of people in the world in regards to fulfilling dreams: 1.) The person who talks about what they want to do, why they haven’t started, that they will someday do ____, etc. or 2.) The person who has a plan, is actively taking steps towards their goals, doesn’t let obstacles stand in their way, etc.

So now you may be asking yourself, what in the world does driving in the rain have to do with achieving my personal goals and dreams? Think of your goal/dream as the destination that you are trying to get to. No matter what your dream is, it’s always fuzzy or blurry in your mind as to how it’s going to become attainable. Setting small, attainable goals will get your towards your dream a little at a time just like the windshield wipers help make your vision clearer and the white lines on the side of the road guide you towards your destination.

Any forward action towards your goal is better than no action at all. Which person will you be from now on? The one who just keeps telling people what you are “going to do” or the one who begins to take action? Don’t let what you mind hasn’t seen yet hinder your from chasing your dream. Remember rain is just an obstacle just like whatever you feel may be holding you back. Just tell the rain to go away and come back another day!

Wale – More About Nothing Mixtape

Wordplay ‘Le aka Wale released his highly anticipated mixtape title “More About Nothing” on August 3rd. More About Nothing is a follow-up to his 2008 release titled “Mixtape About Nothing. Wale’s debut album, “Attention Deficit”, which is a hot album if I say so myself, did not sell like expected. In the new mixtape, Wale does address why this may have been.

Since this debut of this new mixtape, I have found myself accomplishing a lot. I find it to be a nice background soundtrack to getting things done. I thought I would share it with my readers as I tend to do when I like a certain artist.

Bartering on Craigslist

We are now in the eight month of the year already! WOWZERS! I decided that it would be fun to do a little project/experiment on Craigslist over the next month in the bartering section. Over the last couple of weeks, I have been reading all the cool, random, and unnecessary things that people want to trade. There have even been two stories about people who have used the Craigslist barter section to trade up for wonderful things like a paper clip for a house or a cell phone for a Porsche.

I’m not looking for a house or even a car. I am just interested in the entertaining part and the end result. So, what is it that I am going to start with? I am going to start with a simple free DVD rental coupon from Red Box.

I will update the blog regularly in the random section as to what has been offered for each item I trade for and what I end up trading each item for. As for now the experiment is meant to last a month. I can’t wait to see what I end up with if anything at all. I hope those who do follow along enjoy the crazy little monthly journey.

Update (8/2): I am now also trading a Swatch watch on the bartering section on Craiglist. Here is an image of the watch:

Waiting on Alex Rodriguez (Arod) to Hit #600

Being a big Yankees/baseball fan, ever since last week when Alex Rodriguez hit his 599th home run, we at J. Benjamin Clothing Co. have been patiently waiting for #600. We have been watching closely since last Friday hoping to witness live what will make Alex only the seventh player in MLB history to hit 600 or more home runs.
